Chileans began their wine industry more than 100 years ago, and the valleys around Santiago are planted with the world’s top varietals. I chatted with Sergio Carrera Undurraga, whose winery has produced since 1874 in the Maipo and Casablanca Valleys.

I met with the director of Viña Casa Tamaya, René Merino, who told me about the winery’s appearance in 2001 and launching new products in 23 countries including the western part of the United States. It starts with good fruit and good winemaking in the Limari Valley of Chile, near Santiago.

Henry interviews Viña Santa Carolina Winemaker Consuelo Marin, from Santiago, Chile. She says it’s a discipline to produce the best grapes in the best area. She tells how she discovered that some of her Merlot stock was actually Carminiere vines. Her winery has developed a new Piñot Noir. And a new reserve product, VSC, is unveiled by Consuelo during the interview. If you enjoy wine, you will love the wines of Santa Carolina.
